POSTPONED: The "Drive Wal-Mart Away" Traffic Jam
Due to urgency of recent threats made by Wal-Mart, we have had to postpone this event. More information here.
Friends and neighbors, start your engines. On May 17, we're going to Drive Wal-Mart Away.
Register today to join in an RG4N event that will help put the brakes on the Wal-Mart Supercenter at Northcross.
Here’s the scoop: We’re organizing a traffic jam. Here's why:
- Wal-Mart and Lincoln say that Northcross Mall already pulls-in 8,000 cars per day. (Wrong!)
- They also say that their development would only add 7,000 more cars per day. (Wrong!)
In fact, other Austin Wal-Mart Supercenters pull-in as many as 22,000-28,000 cars per day. Our neighborhoods can’t handle that kind of traffic, and we’re going to prove it.
With Drive Wal-Mart Away, we will show how the massive level of traffic from the proposed Wal-Mart Supercenter at Northcross Mall will:
- Overburden the City’s street system
- Endanger public safety
- Result in excessive vehicles per day on nearby streets
City of Austin code instructs City Council or city staff to deny a site plan for those reasons, so we must accomplish this event to drive the point home.
Register today to add your car to the traffic.
