Facts about the RG4N Survey

Facts About The RG4N Survey

The RG4N survey was conducted around Jan. 13-14 online, door-to-door and at area businesses.

It asked 3,239 people 12 questions. One of the questions asked, "Do you support or oppose building a Wal-Mart Supercenter at Northcross?" 2759 said they opposed it. That's 85.18% saying, "I oppose it."

But to RG4N's credit, this survey went much deeper to gain public input.

The other questions gathered demographic information and then polled things like: "Choose up to five things you would most like to be able to do at Northcross Mall."

Another asked "How much do you agree or disagree that each of the following principles should be part of the redevelopment of Northcross Mall?" It asked respondents to note their degree of agreement or disagreement about things like "green space and park space," "fits neighborhood character," "Balance of local and national businesses," and 10 more.

The survey also asked, "How much do you agree or disagree that each of the following characteristics should be part of the redevelopment of Northcross Mall?" The characteristics to choose from and to indicate importance of included:

"Community center located on site"
"Cyclists, pedestrians, people with disabilities can safely get to the area"
"Delivery docks and dumpsters hidden between buildings"
"Green space/park/public plaza"
"No stores that operate 24 hours a day”
"No Wal-Mart Supercenter"
"Parking contained in garages rather than in surface lots"
"Public library located on site"
"Retail stores on ground floor with parking and/or housing above"
"Sign restrictions (such as height limits, no scrolling signs, no billboards)"
"Streets through the property to minimize additional load on existing roads"
"Transit stops on Anderson Lane and Burnet Road next to Northcross"

The RG4N survey was even-handed and fair. It was great piece of research to get the pulse of the community. City leaders would be wise to closely review the results. Moreover, the survey was helpful to the community when RG4n gave the City feedback about the proposed development.

Lastly, even the developer could benefit from the survey by coming to realize that a vast majority of people in this area welcome development and prefer it done responsibly, neighborly and done right.
